Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a reporter for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1976 Mitchell became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional Correspondent. She was made chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell hosted and participated as an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell reported on the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy stories over the years, including fiscal reform, the budget and an investigation into the Iran Contra affair. Mitchell traveled frequently along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
